Why Re-certify with GNIC?

GNIC® certificates are valid for three years.

Re-certification ensures that each certificate continues to represent current, independently demonstrated competence. Rather than requiring professionals to repeat their initial certification, GNIC recognises evidence of how competence has been maintained, applied and further developed through professional practice, continuous learning and contribution to the professional community.

GNIC re-certification therefore goes beyond the administrative renewal of a certificate. It values practical experience, knowledge sharing and objective evidence of continued competence, helping preserve the credibility of both the individual certificate holder and the GNIC certification framework.

Evidence of Continued Professional Competence

Applicants are requested to submit evidence of their continued professional competence. This normally consists of two complementary elements.

Standard Procedure

Part 1 – Reflective Professional Contribution

Applicants are invited to submit a short reflective contribution describing how they have applied the certification subject in a professional context and the value it has created.

This contribution may take various forms, including:

  • a blog article;
  • a professional article;
  • a case study;
  • a conference reflection;
  • a presentation;
  • or another equivalent professional contribution.

The purpose is not to assess writing skills, but to demonstrate reflection, practical application and continued professional engagement.

As a global knowledge network, GNIC believes that professional competence grows through both practice and knowledge sharing. Therefore, and only with the applicant's explicit permission, suitable contributions may be published through GNIC communication channels, such as the GNIC website or LinkedIn page, contributing to the collective knowledge of the international GNIC community.

Part 2 – Professional Activities

Applicants should provide a concise overview of their professional activities related to the certification during the previous certification period.

Relevant evidence may include, for example:

  • professional responsibilities;
  • implementation projects;
  • consultancy assignments;
  • education and training;
  • conferences and seminars;
  • presentations;
  • publications;
  • research activities;
  • mentoring or coaching;
  • participation in professional working groups;
  • or any other activity demonstrating continued professional competence.

The objective is to demonstrate that competence has been actively maintained and further developed since the original certification.

Alternative Routes

Conferences, webinars, seminars, ...

Applicants who are unable to provide sufficient evidence through the above route may demonstrate continued competence by participating in recognised knowledge-based conferences or seminars organised by GNIC or members of the GNIC network.

In this case, applicants submit a reflective contribution discussing one or more conference topics and explaining their relevance for professional practice.

Re-certification Examination

A re-certification examination is available for applicants who are unable to demonstrate sufficient evidence of continued professional competence through professional practice or continuing professional development.

The examination is open-book and assesses current competence against the applicable GNIC normative references.

Re-examination is intended as an alternative pathway, not as the standard route for re-certification.

Application Procedure

Applications for re-certification can be submitted through a GNIC member organisation, which forwards the application and supporting evidence to GNIC for independent review and validation. Or directly to GNIC.

Upon successful validation, applicants receive an updated digital GNIC certificate showing the new period of validity.

Recognition of Non-GNIC Certifications

GNIC was founded by experienced G31000 trainers and consultants who recognised the value of independent competence certification while seeking to further strengthen its academic foundation and long-term governance.

To support this objective, GNIC established independent Academic Councils and Content Committees responsible for developing normative references, assessment methodologies and certification programmes.

GNIC therefore recognises certifications previously issued by G31000. Holders of these certifications may apply for re-certification under the GNIC re-certification framework and are subject to the same requirements regarding continued professional competence.
