The GNIC® Executive Board is responsible for the governance, strategic development and day-to-day management of the Global Network for Independent Certification, ensuring that the organisation operates in accordance with its mission, values and governing principles.

Peter Blokland – Chairman of the Executive Board

Dr. Peter Blokland is the founder and Chairman of the Executive Board of GNIC®. He is responsible for the strategic development, governance and daily management of the Global Network for Independent Certification, ensuring that its activities remain aligned with the organisation's mission, values and principles.

With more than thirty years of experience in high-uncertainty environments, including operational, instructional and leadership roles within the Belgian Air Force and NATO, he has dedicated his career to improving decision-making, organisational performance and professional competence.

Following his military career, he became an international consultant, educator and entrepreneur, supporting organisations in both the public and private sectors. As founder of BYAZ bv, he developed the Total Respect Management (TR³M) methodology, integrating systems thinking, ethical leadership and ISO 31000 into a coherent approach for organisational governance, continual improvement and sustainable performance.

Peter is an active contributor to the international development of ISO 31000 and participates in discussions on the conceptual evolution of risk management, governance and organisational maturity. His work promotes a systemic understanding of organisations, where competence, leadership and decision-making are viewed as interconnected elements of long-term organisational success.

He holds a PhD from Delft University of Technology, where he developed the conceptual foundations of Total Respect Management. His publications include scientific papers, professional books and articles on systems thinking, leadership, safety, organisational performance and risk management.
